Description
“I Love My Amazing Body” is a children’s book encouraging confidence and body appreciation. Jackie is a spunky young girl with untamed curly hair, and a silly and playful personality. She’s confident and joyful, and loves herself and her body. Jackie takes the reader through each body part describing all the things she loves to do with her amazing body. With her fingers she loves to play piano. With her hips she loves to hula hoop. With her arms she loves to hug her dog, Buddy. The book is interactive, with a fun question on each page to engage the reader and get them thinking and moving: What can you balance on your head? What do you love to draw? How high can you stretch your arms? The book can be read several different ways: in or out of order, all at once or a little at a time. This book is a delightful and fun way to teach children to love their bodies starting at an early age.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Once upon a time, there was a songwriter and an artist. They were living in Lala Land (also known as Los Angeles). They met and became friends. Both the songwriter (Jocelyn Scofield) and artist (Kristyn Dors) saw things in Lala Land that made them sad. They saw lots of people who did not love their bodies. They heard lots of people being mean to their bodies and not appreciating them. So the songwriter and the artist decided to write a book about a girl named Jackie. Jackie really loves her body. She knows how amazing and unique her body is and wants to tell the whole world.
REVIEWS:
Author Scofield and Illustrator Dors introduce Jackie, a friendly looking, kid-shaped girl who celebrates her body for its usefulness and sensation without ever looking or feeling objectified in this poetry collection about the parts of the body. No one on earth has a body like mine. / It s unique and rare and one of a kind, Jackie announces. Her earnest love for her body and its uses and her acceptance of all bodies as different and special should welcome readers of all shapes and sizes from the first page. She follows that thought with an ode to her toes (which she can use for balancing or for drawing), her feet (which can feel the grass tickle or kick a ball), her ankles and knees, and on up the body. Each short poem (either one stanza or two) is accompanied by a crayon-drawn illustration of brown-haired, orange-and-yellow dressed Jackie, whose interests include ballet, swimming, playing with her dog, archery, and practicing piano, among other things. The illustrations emphasize that girls can have many hobbies and skills, and they can enjoy both activewear and dressing up. The poems, some stronger than others, offer readers a way to appreciate the functions of each body part. Made possible through a Kickstarter that funded 200% of the goal, this wonderfully illustrated book is a great way to get young readers talking and thinking about their bodies in a positive way. –Kirkus Reviews
